" I wanted to join UA1 for my PhD to be part of the experiment looking for the W,Z particles. Fortunately, Peter Kalmus offered me a place at Queen Mary College. My supervisor was Graham Thompson. At CERN I worked on QCD with Bill Scott."
Was an experiment at the SPS at CERN. It was designed and built to find the W/Z particles (more here) . Carlo Rubbia, the spokesperon, was awarded the Nobel Prize for this work in 1984.
M;y physics outputs included work on hadronic jet algorithms and using jets to extract the proton structure functions.
